Police assure 'total' security at Burna Boy concert in Kenya

The Kenya Police has assured revellers of their safety at the eagerly awaited MadfunXperience. The concert will be held at the Nairobi's Uhuru Gardens on March 1, 2025 and will be headlined by Grammy award-winning Nigerian music superstar Burna Boy. It will also feature Kenyan Afro-pop singing sensations Charisma and Bensoul and South African Amapiano DJ, Vigro Deep alongside a scintillating array of local and foreign deejays.

Addressing the media during a meet and greet event at the Tribe Hotel in Nairobi today, Wednesday, February 5, 2025, Lang'ata Sub-County Police Commander Monica Kimani assured concertgoers of total security, saying the police have improved on all aspects of security provision at events following recent incidents.

"We thoroughly considered all possibilities to confirm the feasibility of the December 30th date; however our primary focus remains delivering an exceptional experience, for Burna Boy fans" a representative from AudioStems stated." With the rescheduling in place, we guarantee to uphold our commitment to offering a concert experience without any compromises."

AudioStems has partnered with Madfun Events; a prominent production company known for its flawless event management to manage all production elements including stage setup, sound coordination and onsite operations.

"There will be no room for any aspect of criminality. We will also provide security in all hotels where gusts will be staying and pledge that there will be free flow of traffic to and from the venue," she said. There have been several cases of massive security lapses at concerts in the recent times in Kenya, especially in Nairobi. These incidents have put the safety of both performers and concertgoers at high risk.

"We have learned from past experiences and we are better prepared to provide security in and out of the event venue. We have increased the number of police officers, both uniformed and undercover in and out of the concert venue. There will be no room for hooliganism," said Monica. She added that culprits of all fraudulently acquired tickets will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance to the law, saying "the image of our country, both locally and internationally, depends on how we carry ourselves out.”

Madfun managing director Joy Wachira said the idea behind bringing one of the most sought-after Afrobeat stars in the world today was to prove the magnanimity of the Kenyan events market. “We are here to prove that Kenya has the capacity to host international events that can compete with the best in the world. MadfunXperience is more than a concert. We want to make a statement about Kenya’s place in the global entertainment industry.” Ms Wachira said.

Burna Boy, who last performed in Kenya eight years ago, will travel to Nairobi for the first time with his entire band, The Outsiders. The huge band consists of 40 plus members and will be accompanied by their stage equipment. The Outsiders are known for their precision and ability to bring Burna Boy’s studio sound to life on stage. Organizers say fans can expect dynamic arrangements, live horn sections, and pulsating drum beats at the concert.
